The Crinkle Crankle Wall Close

The Crinkle-Crankle or Crinkum-Crankum Wall was built to celebrate the Millenium.  It is the first wall of its type to be built in Northamptonshire and probably the first built in England for 150 years.

Popular in Victorian times, they were constructed in areas of high prevailing winds because of their strength.  An example is at the Heveningham Hall Estate – designed by Brown.

The wall used approximately 60,000 hand made bricks and French lime mortar mix.  Constructed during the summer months by the Master father and son team Lynn and Len from the Heritage Trust.

They came to Winwick hot from drinking tea made by our Prime Minister Tony Blair during the re-building of the chimneys at Checkers.
