Gates Close

The pair were constructed in Birmingham at the end of the nineteenth century.  They are riveted not welded.  Designed and worked by (Thomas Brawn), they were originally on a grand house in Warwickshire and weigh over two tonnes each.  Erected independently of the wall and staircase turrets they are mounted on 10 foot galvanised box structure by Phil and his team.  During Christmas and birthdays, the spiral gate pillars spout eighteen inch torch flames – perfect for toast.

It is authenticated that Queen Victoria once drove through the splendid gates and was heard to comment “handsome” but whether she was referring to the gates or a footman is not known.
