Village Remains Close

Winwick is an old settlement and was recorded in William The Conquerers Survey – The Doomsday book of 1066. The village supported 70 people, mainly land workers and approximately 90 sheep.  Over the centuries, the village grew and aerial photographs show foundation remains.

With the arrival of the plague – the Black Death, the village declined with inhabitants moving to nearby West Haddon and Yelvertoft. The millennium survey showed very similar numbers to the Doomsday book which just confirms the  line – if things don’t change, they’ll stay as they are.
